Did you know that you can use honey and essential oils to support your health this winter? If you’re like me, nearly everyone you know has ‘caught something’ this winter–at least once! If you (or someone you know or take care of) has been a victim, here’s a great (and simple) recipe for DIY Cough ‘Detonator’….yes! Support your body naturally with honey and essential oils and drive that hacking hack far away.
How Honey Helps You
Honey is an amazing substance. It can help you maintain healthy weight management, counteract seasonal challenges, fuel the body and give it energy, provide antioxidants, help us catch up on our Zzzzzz’s, support the body in wound healing, and more.
It’s also a natural and effective way to support healthy mucus production and help avoid that endless hacking that comes with winter issues.
Honey is THAT good.
(And if that wasn’t enough, did you know it takes over 1,000 bees traveling over 100,000 miles to pollinate 4.5 million flowers for 16 oz of honey!)
Honey and Essential Oils Support Your Health
Honey all by itself is a wonderful support for the body. But if you want to punch it up a little, try adding essential oils. A really great DIY remedy that just takes a couple minutes is making your own Cough Detonator!
There are many different essential oils that support immunity and the body’s natural ability to heal. Do your research and you can come up with endless variations of this recipe. The one I use is this:
Cough Detonator Honey:
1 cup raw honey (from a local-to-you source is best)
8 drops Lemon oil
8 drops Wild Orange oil
6 drops On Guard oil blend
4 drops Peppermint oil
4 drops Ginger oil
Place the honey in a clean dry (seal-able) GLASS container (I just a mason jar with canning lid and ring). Drop the oils into the honey and stir. Let this all sit a couple of days so the oils can fully infuse the honey.
Ways to Use it:
Take a 1/2 teaspoon full every time you’re feeling that scratchy, annoying feeling (before you start hacking your lungs out).
If you take a bit before bedtime, it will help you with a more restful sleep.
Put some in a cup of warm tea to soothe the throat.
You can store this on your shelf in a sealed GLASS container. Both honey and essential oils have a super long shelf life, so you’ll finish it off before it goes bad (as it pretty much WON’T go bad).
CAUTIONS:
- Please remember that children under the age of 1 year old should NOT consume honey.
- ONLY consume essential oils that are therapeutic grade oils. Other oils of lesser quality can be harmful to your health.
Don’t you love it when nature provides solutions that work, are non-toxic and taste delicious?? Mmmm (yes, it’s true, I put this in my tea even when I don’t have a cough to detonate!)
