CITY GIRL FARMING | Sustainable Living for Regular People

Color Coordinated Chickens

11/19/2010

The fall leaves carpet the grass in the side yard with a colorful layer of decaying mess. Yes, someone should really rake those leaves up! The task goes on the mental to-do list in my mind. For some day. But not today.

I let the girls out for a quick recess in between bouts of rain.  They love to play in the leaves, just like kids. They scratch and dig and uncover all sorts of interesting (to them) finds. The world is their playground and they happily run around, excited to be free.

I watch the girls scurry and scratch for a few minutes before it hits me: My chicks perfectly color coordinate to the fall leaves they’re playing in! Martha Stewart would be so proud!

And it’s just the excuse I needed to leave the leaves awhile longer. Besides, they’re good for the soil, right?

The Girls DIG the fall leaves..
